Xtreme developments have been performed with the key idea to target large scale and complex optimization applications. Such problems can be found in many different areas: aeronautics, manufacturing, energy, automotive and racing cars, finance, distribution, ...

1. Single physic optimization

1 A first kind of application concerns the use of Xtreme to single physics optimization problem. As a first example, it can be applied to pure aerodynamic optimization.

This type of applications can be found in the field of aero-engines for blade design, aeronautic for wing or fuselage design, racing car design and optimization.

2 Although Xtreme can be applied to several individual physical domains such as fluid, structure, acoustic, manufacturing, ... it is the best tool to handle multi-physics optimization applications.

As an example it can be used to perform aero-mechanical optimization of various shapes in various fields.

4. Highly complex optimization

4 In some applications, the optimization cycles are very hard to solve because of the following reasons:

1. There are very non-linear constraints must be applied during the optimization cycles.
2. The simulation runs do not always converge and therefore the optimization cycles must be capable to continue
3. The responses are noisy

These complexities are always present in large CFD optimization and the Xtreme software has been design specifically to deal with these features.
